Glucose is the final hydrolysis product. From these observations one can deduce that soils contain some quantity of accumulated dextranase (DriganBularda and Kiss, 1972a). In the absence of toluene the proliferating microorganisms metabolize a large portion of the glucose released from dextran through the action of the accumulated dextranase and the dextranase recently produced.
