Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may possibly come back

A new rumor surfaced recently that Lucasfilm Games may be working on a new game for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic franchise. This rumor comes directly from Bespin Bulletin and the B.O.B. the Podcast. Bespin hasn’t said where they got this information from but has stated that this game is indeed in the works – of course this information came to Bespin from a few unnamed sources.

A couple of interesting things to take note here: we don’t know if this is going to be a new story or a remake. Given the fact that we are in the era of remakes and remasters, it’s not outside the realm of possibility. Bespin was also a bit vague on this one and hasn’t clearly said it would be a remake, just that it would be a new game in that particular universe.

The other interesting thing is that thanks to Jason Schreier, he’s confirmed…at least in part that EA isn’t handling this project. The news came out recently that a new partnership with Ubisoft has begun, and whatever game they’re working on, according to Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, “…is different from anything that has been done before.” Many have interpreted this to be an open-world game but information on this hasn’t exactly been confirmed.

The fact that we’ve received information about Ubisoft’s partnership with Disney and them taking on a new Star Wars project makes this particular rumor seem a bit more solid. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has seen some level of success, given that it’s a game made by EA people were pretty skeptical.

Combine that with the wildly successful Star Wars: The Mandalorian, this would be a great time to capitalize off of the hype that Disney has created for the franchise and try their hand at making another video game but with another company. Of course, with any rumor the best thing to do is to take it with a grain of salt. Tell us your thoughts on this latest rumor in the comments below!
